Theaterperformances

In »Tree River«, four protected trees in Munich become witnesses and storytellers of the connection between water and life.

Tree River is an open-air theatre performance with puppets and live music, which is taking place at four of the oldest trees in Munich. With special appearances by a Scientist, an Owl, a Mycelium and Water.

Tree River tells the story of the river in the tree, which is the story of the journey of water. The water that flows through trees, cities and all of us, and seeps into the soil – the water that flows through time and across the oceans. This journey we call the natural water cycle.

At the heart of every Tree River performance lies the deeply personal and unique story of each tree and its surroundings. Through the Mycelium, a mobile seating structure, the audience comes into contact with the universe of the tree. And we understand: everything in nature is interconnected; everything is mutually dependent.

Tree River is a public art project by OOZE (Eva Pfannes & Sylvain Hartenberg) and Marjetica Potrč. The artistic vision for the theatre piece evolved through close collaboration with Michael Pietsch, actor, (Münchner Kammerspiele), who built and performs the marionettes, Anke Retzlaff, actress (Tatort) who also composed the music (Viola da Gamba, electronics) and Kathrin Liess, author (Dark Matter), who wrote the play. Professor Andreas Roloff, director of the German Tree Institute gave valuable insights into the life of trees.

OOZE (Eva Pfannes & Sylvain Hartenberg) and Marjetica Potrč developed idea and concept, designed the mobile seating structure, and have the overall artistic direction. Sara Mack, freispiel Kulturagentur, leads the production.
